This group provides a fun, relaxed and informative introduction to jazz playing. They perform regularly at Leek Arts Festival, and at other concerts through the year.

Their repertoire is quite mixed and includes many big band classics from writers such as Neal Hefti, Sal Nestico and Oliver Nelson. They also recreate contemporary sounds from artist like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Bruno Mars. Many orchestrations are transcriptions of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn works that John collected from the Ellington archive in Washington DC. The changes to the band’s library over the years have reflected the band’s personnel and the players’ abilities as most of the orchestrations are prepared for the line-up at that particular period – a mini jazz-Esterhazy in Buxton!

Following on from their brilliant performaces at the Opera House in June, Peak District String Orchestra and Peak District Big Band will be delighting audiences at St John's Church, Buxton on Friday 7 July from 7.30pm. Tickets available on the door for £7 (under 16s free). This concert is part of the Buxton Fringe Festival.
